Today the pool was closed because the water was too cloudy and they had to treat it with chemicals. Wouldn't it be nice if, when we get "cloudy", someone would shut us down and treat us with a chemical to make us clear again?
If only someone would just shut us down when we are angry or bitter or vengeful or nasty in every sense of the word. Wouldn't it be wonderful if, by some magic solution, we could be made clear again by someone else? It would, however, make us less answerable and less determined to change our negative ways.
But we do not grow by letting someone else do our dirty work for us. Instead of letting someone wash over us a solution that would clear the anger we fell, we need to confront that anger and find our own solution to turn that negativity into positivity.
Instead of letting someone wash over us a solution that would clear us of our bitterness, we have to look inside ourselves and see where that bitterness is coming from and then forgive the source of the bitterness.
Instead of letting someone wash over us a solution that would clear us of our vengefulness, we have to let go of our self-centerness and look at the other person and put ourselves in their places before we seek to get even.
Instead of letting someone wash over us a soluton that would clear us of nastiness, we have to stop and ask ourselves if the situation warrents us deliberately hurting someone else.
Even though we can't go to the store and buy that magic solution, we do have it within our grasps. We all have the capacity to think and feel and make decisions that will effect us and those around us. So next time you want to become angry or seek vengence or fall prey to bitterness or feel the urge to be nasty, pull out that gallon jug of self control and reasoning and douse yourself with it til you are are clean and clear again.
