Do You Want Your Senior Discount?

Thought for the Day: Your home is your refuge, so surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.

Today's trivia question and the answer to yesteday's is now found at the bottom of the daily entries.

DO YOU WANT YOUR SENIOR DISCOUNT?
I remember the first time anyone asked me that. I was indignant!! "What? Do I LOOK like a senior?" roared my slightly wounded ego. Now I take whatever discount is offered to me as a senior.

I went grocery shopping today. Since I do not have a car, I have to rely on others to take me. I have a dear friend who usually asks me to go shopping with her, but due to the bitter cold weather we have been having, she has not ventured out of her house. So I availed myself of one of the community senior programs.....The Senior Van.

This was my first time and I was a little apprehensive, which turned out to be unfounded. There were only other seniors in the van and I realized that there is a certain bonding and safety with being with people my own age. We had just been introduced and we were carrying on like we had been friends for years. We all agreed that there were certain perks to being old and being a senior....not many, mind you, but some.

However, if we just stop and think about it, we have more than others. Here, in Buffalo, is has become a joke of sorts. Whenever a senior goes out to eat, the choice and location of the restaurant is not as important as finding a restaurant that gives senior discounts and accepts coupons. And most seniors I know sure take advantage of that..........the heck with the misplaced pride.

So with my groceries in tow, I proudly climbed into the van that very clearly had "Senior Services" written in bold letters on the sides, and for one was glad that I had come this far in life...that I had become a senior. So the next time someone asks you, "Do you want your senior discount?", hold your head up proudly and say, "Hell, Yes!!!"
